Monday 20th March

This morning I made some sketchbook pages where I am starting to think more realistically about my ideas.

Straight after Lunch, I had a tutorial that got me in the perfect mindset for a productive afternoon. We talked over my whole project and she helped me answer some important questions that I have been struggling with. I have been particularly stuck in my sketchbook lately, finding it hard to think of ways to turn my concepts into 3D sculptures. We discussed where I want to take my project next. I think there are two clear paths, either carry on developing my concepts with more furniture elements such as tables and chairs or go back to making and developing my Scottish creature hybrids. Due to the furniture ideas lacking in research and knowledge and my general excitement being higher for the Scottish creatures I have decided to go with the latter.

We also talked about my ideas and the different ways I could make them come to life or start developing them off of the paper. This included experimenting with materials that could be used to waterproof the parts of my design that are going to hold water and making maquettes of my sculptural ideas. I am going to get both of these done this week and once I've done the maquette I will start to make the skeleton for my larger piece. But first I want to see my design in 3D to help me understand how it's going to stand and see if it needs more support.

Plan for the week -

Monday - Making bowls out of plaster to see if they hold water. If not experiment with different ways to make them waterproof.

Tuesday, and Wednesday - Making mini model (maquette)

Thursday and Friday - Starting the base/skeleton of the larger piece. Will need to book the workshop if I decide to make it out of wood or metal etc.

Useful advice to remember in the future -

It's ok and important to make things that you aren't happy with. That's how you develop your ideas, by analyzing what it is you don't like.
